About Me

Hi! I’m Ellen. I’m a wedding and event planner in Atlanta, Georgia. If you’re here you’re probably engaged or related to someone who is. Congratulations! This is such an exciting time in your life and I would love to be a part of it! Planning another type of event? Although weddings are my passion and primary focus, I’d love to hear what else you have in mind! Not in Atlanta? No problem! I love to travel!

My background is a bit different from what you may hear from other planners. After college I worked in corporate America as a health care financial consultant for a few years and then made the switch to the advertising world where I worked in social media and website analytics for another few years. In both roles I managed teams, prepared reports and presented to numerous clients, and was the point person for multiple projects. I definitely got used to juggling a wide variety of tasks on a daily basis.

Despite having success in the corporate world, I wasn’t happy. Wedding planning had always interested me (and I’ve been watching Say Yes to the Dress for as long as I can remember!), but I absolutely fell in love with the industry while planning my own wedding. I started to work a few events on weekends in my spare time, immediately loved being on the other side, and haven’t looked back. Wedding planning taps into all of the things I was good at in the corporate world, but adds all of the fun, pretty, exciting details I was missing! I’m pretty sure my clients back then wouldn’t be nearly as excited over peonies, stationery, or white poufy dresses as my clients are now!

I was very lucky to have had a role as a lead planner from the get-go and I worked my first wedding on my own just 5 weeks after quitting my corporate job. In 2017, after two years of learning, growing, and working with lots of happy couples, it was time to go out on my own and Ellen Thomas Events was born!

I pride myself on my professional yet lighthearted approach. Let’s grab a drink! Let’s crack some jokes! Let’s be friends! The planning process should be FUN and the more I know the real you, the better equipped I am to pair you with the perfect vendors for your style and personality, as well as execute your vision flawlessly on the big day.

Whether you are interested in full planning, day of coordinating, or something in between, I will be by your side throughout your engagement to answer your questions and help relieve any stress. I will be your adviser, point person, cheerleader, and your voice of reason (trust me, you’ll need one!). When the big day arrives, let me manage the vendors, execute the details, and handle the unexpected, so that you, your family, and your friends can relax and enjoy everything you’ve worked so hard to plan. You only get one shot at this so let’s make sure it’s the best day of your life!

Everyone hates ice breakers, but here are a few of my favorite things aside from weddings:

  • Dogs – especially my crazy rescue mutt, Cayenne. If you have a dog, I probably want to meet him or her. If you’re planning on having your dog be a part of your wedding, even better.
  • French fries – my husband says I “never met a french fry I didn’t like.” It’s a real problem.
  • Neapolitan pizza with spicy salami. Or, honestly, any pizza. Pizza and French fries mmmmmmm.
  • Relaxing by the pool or at the beach with a good book and a cold beverage.
  • Margaritas, prosecco, red wine, and craft beer… clearly I don’t discriminate!
  • Sleeping in and taking naps.
  • Big loose floral arrangements – especially with bright, fun, colors.
  • My morning Diet Coke (and my lunch Diet Coke but who’s counting…).
  • CrossFit – to burn off all the pizza, french fries, Diet Coke, and booze. I work out and coach at my gym, but don’t worry, I can talk about other things.
  • The Bachelor franchise – the ultimate guilty pleasure!
  • House Hunters, Flip or Flop, Fixer Upper… pretty much anything on HGTV.
  • And of course my wonderful husband and family.

Annie McNutt has worked with Ellen Thomas Events since it’s inception in 2017. She is a hard worker with great attention to detail. She is a quick learner with a zeal for planning successful events. Annie will plan and organize every detail for all types of events, but she loves weddings! One of her favorite wedding moments is when the bride and groom are introduced at the reception for the first time as husband and wife. She loves this particular moment because it is an opportunity to appreciate how happy the couple is and how excited they are to celebrate with their friends and family. If you’re looking for someone to plan your special event, Annie would love to help. When she is not planning events, Annie enjoys baking, hiking, yoga and anything outdoors!
